Course info
From January 1st 2005 changes to the building regulations meant that a high percentage of electrical work carried out in people's homes in England and Wales now must be notified to the local building control departments. Together with a certificate of compliance given to the householder. Professional tradespersons now have a choice when their work is covered by the new regulations: 1. They must notify building control directly when work they do comes under the new regulations. The inspectorates will the send a certified person out to approve an installation. They become a member of a competent person's scheme. They can then self-certify work. No further visits are required from building control. You will need Part P if your work involves any of the following: Connection of an additional circuit to a new or existing consumer unit Complete re-wiring Replacement of cables resulting from damage to more than one existing circuit Installations in kitchens, bathrooms or utility rooms (e.g. installing a new circuit for a shower, cooker or boiler)Alterations to existing circuits including addition or relocation of equipment or accessories (e.g. light fitting or socket outlet The BPEC Part P qualifications allows you to join the competent persons scheme.
