Course info
The GDL starts with some pre-course study, including an interactive study manual and multi-media activities, designed so you can hit the ground running when you arrive. The first topic you will study is legal method. This covers the English legal system, legal research and other essential skills - it acts as a bridge between your previous education and the law, and draws on practical examples of the law in a range of commercial and other contexts. A multi-media package will help build your business awareness. You'll then study the seven foundation subjects in both corporate and commercial and private contexts: contract law; criminal law; equity and trusts; European Union law; land law; public law; tort.
How much will it cost?
Full time fees for 2007-08 were: London Bloomsbury - £6,980; Birmingham - £6,200; Chester - £5,900; Guildford - £6,500; York - £5,900. Part time, evening: £3,490. Self Study: Birmingham - £3,100; Chester - £2,950; Guildford - £3,250; York - £2,950.
Assessment method
Regular informal assessments and written and oral feedback from tutors will help you keep tabs on your development in preparation for the final exams. You final result is based on: a multiple choice examination on legal method; two pieces of independent research: one on a foundation subject and a dissertation on a legal subject of your choice; final examinations in each foundation subject.
