Course info
The IT1 Electronic Communication course is designed to help learners to acquire basic skills in using email and the Internet. It is a Level 1 course and can be used to prepare for the OCR Level 1 Certificate for IT Users (New CLAIT). The course has been developed for Microsoft Outlook Express 6 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 6. Support materials highlight material differences when using Microsoft Outlook 5 and 5.5 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 and 5.5. The target audience for this course are learners who want to acquire basic email and web browsing skills and use Microsoft Outlook Express to manage their email and Microsoft Internet Explorer to browse the web. Learners in this category may not previously have had much experience of using a computer. The course will equip learners to understand the basic function and use of Microsoft Outlook Express and Microsoft Internet Explorer software, and to create, edit, save, send and read email and browse, search and use the web to find information and purchase goods and services. The course is designed to provide the learner with hands-on practice and confidence in using email and the Internet, and does this through a series of demonstrations and simulated opportunities to practise tasks. Consolidation activities for the email component are simulated. Internet activities are more usually completed in the live application and deatils of the learners experiences typed into feedback forms for assessment by the tutor. A final course activity consolidates their learning from the entire course. Upon completing the course, the learner will possess a portfolio of work as evidence of their progress. The course also contains extensive support documentation which may be printed for future reference. This includes a glossary, reference material on using Microsoft Outlook Express and Microsoft Internet Explorer and more general advice on using email and browsing the web.
